The Rev. Dr. Pamela Baker Powell is a PC(USA) clergywoman and pastoral theology professor. She is a member of the Committee on Ministry of the Presbytery of San Diego.

Having been an ordained pastor for nearly twenty-five years, Pam has been pastor of churches in Los Angeles, Texas and Pennsylvania, and in 2005-06 served Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church as Director of Adult Discipleship.

Before moving to San Diego in 2005, Pam served as an Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology and Dean of Students at the local Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry in Pittsburgh.

The Powells have three grown children, two of whom are married. Their older son and his wife are attorneys in Los Angeles, and have two children. The Powells’ second son, a graduate of Fuller Seminary, is an associate pastor (to be ordained) – planting a Presbyterian church in the Washington, D.C. area. Both their daughter and her husband, graduates of Princeton Seminary, are pursuing doctorates in church history and theology in the U.K. at St. Andrews and Cambridge and are candidates for ordination in the PC(USA).

Pam is a graduate of Miami University with a Bachelors in English; a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary with an Masters of Divinity; and a graduate of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary with a Doctor of Ministry degree. Her personal interests beyond family and faith are writing, travel, art, music, literature and drama.

Pam’s husband, John, is the pastor of Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church. The Powells have been active in missionary and educational travel and lead a tour to Turkey, “The Other Holy Land,” for two weeks in November 2006.

The Rev. Dr. Pamela Powell began serving as Interim Pastor at MSPC on 10 September 2006. We were very blessed to have Pastor Pam minister to us until Pastor John Moser arrived on 1 May 2007.
