July 05 to 31 July 06

Rev. Paul Pulliam

(sadly, re-retired on 1 Aug 06)

Rev. Paul Pulliam served at MSPC from July 2005 to July 2006, including months as co-Stated Supply Pastor.  The Pulliams have just moved to Mt. Miguel Covenant Village.

Rev. Paul Pulliam was graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1947. During that time he met his future wife, Ruth Sutherland, then a student at Stanford and the daughter of United Presbyterian missionaries to India. They met at an Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship Retreat and were married as Mr. Pulliam began his third year of theological study at the Pittsburgh Seminary from which he received both his B.D. and Th.M. degrees.

Following a pastorate near Irwin, Pennsylvania, the Pulliams sailed for Pakistan where for the next 15 years they served in a variety of mission assignments. These included working with village pastors, teaching English and acting as chaplain in a college, serving as pastor to a large construction community with Urdu services for Pakistanis and English services for Europeans.

Rev. Pulliam began service at the First Presbyterian Church of San Diego in 1969, retiring after 22 happy years. In addition to his work as Senior Pastor he was a member of the Board of Directors of the San Diego County Red Cross, the San Diego Metropolitan YMCA, and the Senior Community Center. He was for many years active in the San Diego Kiwanis Club in which he served as President. His involvements in the Presbytery of San Diego included a term as Moderator and chairmanship of numerous committees.

Since retiring in October 1991 the Pulliams have travelled extensively. In 1992 they spent three months in Thailand, Pakistan, and Malaysia, as well as visiting Austria, Hungary, and South Africa. More recently they visited China followed by a month in England, Scotland, and Wales. The Pulliams are the proud parents of five children. Their eldest son, Eric, and his wife serve as Presbyterian missionaries in Sialkot, Pakistan.
